Dr. Rebecca Martin’s interest in both science and medicine propelled her pursuit of an MD and a PhD in cell and molecular biology through the University of Vermont College of Medicine’s combined MD/PhD program. During her clinical rotations, the safety net aspect of emergency medicine drew her to the field, and she completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Tennessee Health and Science Center at Chattanooga and Erlanger Health System. Following residency, she embarked on a research fellowship at the same institution. Her research project, implementing the first first responder-directed naloxone leave behind program in Tennessee, ignited a passion for increasing access to evidence-based treatment of substance use disorders. She has served as the Director of Emergency Opioid Use Disorder Services for Erlanger Health System and Cedar Recovery’s medical director for their telemedicine addiction service program. She currently provides consultation to the Southeast Tennessee Department of Health’s STEPS (Southeast Tennessee Emergency Department Protocols for Substance Use Disorder) Project and is building an addiction medicine program with Hamilton County, Tennessee’s Homeless Health Care Center. She serves as a Hamilton County appointee of the Regional Health Council and chairs its Addiction and Dependency subcommittee. She has recently accepted a full time position with Crossroad Treatment Center. Rebecca is board certified in both emergency and addiction medicine.
